Agave cactus question??

I have agave cactus in my back yard and just recently it sprout a shoot very long one. It look like it happened almost overnight because I work at my back yard every day and there was nothing just few days ago?? Can someone explain what is it?

Agave cactus question??
I agree, flower spike. They DO sprout overnight. The flowers may be especially fragrant overnight, and it is possible that bats are pollinators for the agave. Also, watch for hummingbirds. If the agave is near a window, take a seat and watch.
Reply:Flowering, well done.
Reply:Its probably a flower spike. Obviously the agave is happy and wants to procreate.
Reply:I agree, its a flower spike. The only problem with agave is that after they sprout this flower and it wilts that plant dies.
