mexico, but you can grow it in sub tropical areas. i am in Savannah GA, and you can grow it here, it is closely related to Aloe Vera, and Century Plants, so if you can grow these outside you can most likely grow Agave. BTW it is a fairly large plant so you will need lots of room.

It is native to the state of Jalisco in Mexico but is grown all over Mexico.
