I buy plain oatmeal in bulk and sweeten it with agave nectar but I wanted to know if I were to add cinnamon powder, would it taste like a cinnamon roll or would I need to add vanilla extract to it as well..thanks
How do I make cinnamon roll flavored oatmeal?
cinnamon and vanilla
Reply:I cook my oatmeal and as it is cooking I add a spoon ful of butter. Then I add about a quarter cup of brown sugar, a dash of cinnamon, and some raisins. A dash of vanilla. Then I pour just a bit of heavy cream over the top when it is done. Tastes just like cinnamon roll.
Reply:Vanilla, good idea. Also, butter and powdered sugar.
Reply:What they said above and maybe powdered sugar. That's pretty much what the icing on a cinnamon roll is made of.
Reply:try it and see....it won't taste gross!
I would put cinnamon powder, vanilla extract and a dash of butter flavouring
Reply:cinnamon and vinilla

Which liquor would be considered the healthiest?
I know beer is bad but I was wondering which liquor would be better calorie wise. I know wine is good for you and I have always thought tequila was ok cause it is made from the agave plant. I just want to know which is better for the body. Also I know the whole alcahol part so I dont need to read about that.
Which liquor would be considered the healthiest?
Red Wine becasue of the high levels of anti-oxidants it carries. You should limit to 1 glass a day (about 175ml).
White wine is high in calories and carrys no benefits just like beer.
Stout/heavy (Guiness) would be the best bet in beer.
From a calorie point of view, clear spirits are best due to the high alcohol content but they are much worse due to that same alcohol content and liver damage and have no health benefits.
Reply:vodka and soda water
i think the white spirtits are best, as long as you mix them with low calorie mixers
Reply:I've always heard red wine is good for you in moderation.
Reply:are you joking???

Reply:red, white and rose wine in moderation is good for your health. 1-2 glasses a day, specially red wine is really good for your health. may not be as good for your pocket, though.

Is there a way to make homebrew tequila?
Like from scratch. We have local agave plants (edible kind) and I'd like to try it!
Is there a way to make homebrew tequila?
only if you have a still. It is a distilled beverage much like scotch or vodka.
Reply:You could if you have all the materials necessary.
Tequila is made from the blue agave plant primarily. So you would need lot of blue agave. That is why tequila is made in Mexico.
The agave is fermented and then the liquid distilled so you would need a way to distill the fermented liquid.
Then the tequila is aged for a period of time. My experience is the longer it is aged the better the tequila is.
Tequila is not anything new. It has probably been made for centuries the same old way.
Go for it!
Reply:Possible, but check ur heating bill. Agave is a notoriously hard plant to boil- which is an important part of this process. Most good tequilerias do theirs for a few days.
Reply:Doesn't sound like it. Check out Epinions.com - homemade tequila facts.
Reply:I've been to Tequila several times and seen it done.
You must trim, the leaves from the plant.
Take the big pinapple-looking thing and cut it into big chunks.
You dont want to boil this. Bake it at low temps (300f or so) 'till it becomes soft and the juice is sweet. (you've just converted the starches to sugar).
Now you must rinse with hot water all of the sugar from the baked pina. This is a mess and will reqire a very large strainer and a huge bucket to catch the sweet run-off.
Once you've milked the pina for all of it's sweet nectar, cool it down to about 70f and add brewers yeast. Wait for the juice to ferment into the beer (pulque), about 5 days.
Put the pulque in a still and distill it into spirits.
Ole!
You really should invest in a book that can walk you through the steps.

Is there any alcohol made from cactus fruit?
I can't think of any, unless the agave plant is considered a cactus.
Is there any alcohol made from cactus fruit?
Yes there are a couple that use only the fruit of the cactus. Colonche Wine is an example. There are quite a few more that use the pulp as well. Tequila obviously but there are quite a few others that make use of the pulp.
PS. Agave is a succulent...like a cactus but different.
Reply:Tequila mang! and yes, Agave is a cactus
Reply:In the Mexican states of Puebla and Oaxaca there's a cactus called a garambuyu (spelling?) The berries are a deep, intense red. They are sometimes fermented, and the product is distilled. The result, which is coloured deep neon pink and tastes like gasoline, packs a helluva wallop.
Reply:I think that some of tequila is made from cactus juice!!!
Reply:some of the wine wines r form the extracts of CACTUS--definitely succulent ones
Reply:Yeah you can get wine made from Agave.
wesley

Is it true that tequila produces a different buzz?
I've had small amounts of tequila before, but I've never been drunk strictly off it. Does the agave plant actually change the way you feel as opposed to drinking something else of 80-proof caliber?
Is it true that tequila produces a different buzz?
I think every different kind of alcohol gives a different buzz, and hangover.
Reply:Yes it does
Reply:yes, i get mean with tequila. very aggresive. vodka and rum are more mellow and happy.
Reply:Tequila is definitely a different type of alcohol than any other type I have ever experienced, and I've experienced most all of them in my 64 years. I will not drink Tequila ever again. I have had it on two different occasions and almost blacked out both times with only a small amount taken, like two drinks. I would definitely suggest you stay away from it if you have to go to work the next day. My wife tried it once and really believed that she would never be able to walk again. She did though eventually.
Reply:to me being drunk is being drunk...but lucky me, ive never had a hangover =)
Reply:It is a high which is quite nice... this is cosed by the specific alcohols that are in tequila.
Reply:i think..... 100% pure Aguave Tequla if a lot is drank... can make you halasunate... sorry spelling lol ' hic'
Reply:a mean buzz, is what i've seen.
Reply:I think all different liquors give a different buzz. For instance; just a couple of shots of whiskey will get me drunk but I can drink rum all night and not feel a thing, gin will hit me like a ton of bricks after about three or four!

Should I bother with amending the soil if I want to transplant succulents into the ground from pots?
I live in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California. I have of few agave and opuntia varieties I'd like to transplant. Is springtime a good time to do this? My soil isn't clay like and the area I want to use hasn't had any type of plantings in years, except weeds.
Should I bother with amending the soil if I want to transplant succulents into the ground from pots?
Most succulents come from desert or arrid climates so you would expect them to do well in poor soil. That doesn't mean they won't benefit from better soil.
My mom once brought a barrel cactus from West Texas and planted it in South Louisiana. It grew like the dickens.
Reply:Oil Field is correct. The only other thing is to ensure that you have good drainage. Almost all succulents hate to have there feet always in the water!!
Reply:Before you transplant add sand and gravel with some compost.

Does adding sweetener to a vinegar drink take away the benefits?
I've read from several sources that although vinegar is an acid, once ingested, it helps make your body alkaline. Will adding honey, agave, or maple syrup, to the vinegar drink render it useless? Or will the drink still help to make the body alkaline?
Thanks!
Does adding sweetener to a vinegar drink take away the benefits?
Honegar is an old remedy, going back centuries. Equal amounts of honey and apple cider vinegar are mixed with warm water. It is used to stabilize the electrolytes of the body from the effects of diarrhea, thus neutralizing the environment that disease thrives in. It is also good for sore throats, coughs of all kinds, asthma (as a preventative), I could keep on going.
Honey adds to the benefits of ACV. Not sure about maple syrup having any benefits, other than to make it sweet. However, maple syrup does stabilize the body's blood sugar better than honey.
Reply:I usually mix apple cider vinegar w/ a little honey to make it more tolerable...i've never heard of it being a problem
Reply:adding honey Is fine.
Thanks!
